Letter from our international director: we need your help this holiday season

In 2009 I took my first trip to Haiti and a team member joked with me that he could see me coming to work in Haiti permanently. I responded with a bit of surprise at the notion as I didn’t see myself in Haiti on a permanent basis. Fast forward almost ten years and I, with the help of many others, have created a light in the community of Despinos. It has not been easy and each time I have been met with difficulty or resistance I have leaned on those the Lord has placed in my life to help me find my way. In times of need - of which there are many - it is my Haitian family, the Imagine Missions children and staff, who always help to guide me through difficult times. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the Americans and Canadians who have poured their hearts out and come through in our most desperate times to help us, whether through sending teams or financial support.

This holiday season Imagine Missions needs your support. We employ more than 100 Haitians in our small community of Despinos and this has proven to be a very large responsibility. The money they receive as employees of Imagine Missions not only supports them as an individual, but it’s important to note that their pay check also supports their entire families and helps their friends. With only 1 in 7 people employed in Haiti, our employment of more than 100 people has exponential benefits and is a catalyst for real change in the Despinos community.

I couldn't be more excited and proud to see that we are now helping well more than 400 students and as many families. However, it’s also a great responsibility that keeps me up at night. As we continue to search for sustainable funding plan to pay our teachers and general staff, I find myself desperate for your help. We need to gather enough funds to make sure everyone gets paid and as we have grown so quickly I find that I need immediate assistance. Galatians 6:2 says “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” I am so blessed to have such a generous community to help carry Imagine Missions. Even when times get tough. Now, for Imagine Missions as we are doing so much more than ever before, times are tough and we need your financial support more than ever.

This year we need $20,000 to make payroll through the year as Haitian law requires that we double salaries in the month of December. Your donations to our #imagineaverymerryChirstmas fundraiser will not only help the Imagine Missions leadership focus on finding sustainable funding, but it will also help an entire community this holiday season.

10 years ago I would not have imagined that I would be a mother of 100 children, or that I would be running a school for 400 children in Haiti. 10 years ago, I was a young woman who came to help Haiti with a team for just a few short weeks. I never imagined that this experience would allow me to dedicate my life to helping God's children. Making real change in a country that is desperate for help is my calling. I could not do it without your financial support and today I am asking you for your to help us when our need is so great.

Please donate to Imagine Missions this Giving Tuesday and Holiday Season. Help us continue to change lives and create hope.

Thank you and God Bless,

Melissa Young

International Director of Imagine Missions.
